Find your perfect Ennis retreat with Montana Luxury Real Estate

Ennis, Montana is a pearl of a town in the Madison Valley — a little piece of heaven. This farming town has become a fly fisher’s paradise — the world-class fishing of the Madison River stretch south from Main Street. Here, anglers sidle up elbow to elbow with hunters, artists, farmers, pond hockey players, and National Park-goers at the Gravel Bar, ready to share a pint and maybe a story or two.

With the Beaverhead River, Jefferson River, Ruby River, and Big Hole a short drive away, the waters beckon. And just outside of town, numerous trailheads connect folks with wilderness and national forest in the rugged and wild Madison Range to the east, and the Gravelly Range and Tobacco Roots to the west. There’s something and somewhere for everyone to explore; whether you prefer two feet, two oars, four hooves, or four wheels.

A FRIENDLY, HISTORIC SMALL TOWN WHERE RANCHING, RECREATION, AND COMMUNITY MEET

Boaters come to Ennis to recreate on Ennis Lake, a reservoir of the Madison River formed by the hydroelectric dam that sits at the head of Bear Trap Canyon, just to the north. The reservoir is wide and shallow, making for warm, friendly waters beloved by tubers, swimmers, and watercraft users, along with resident and migratory waterfowl, including trumpeter swans. Come winter, when the lake freezes over, ice fishers set up on its wide-open surface, and folks shovel off hockey rinks to play the puck with their neighbors.

Over 400 households call Ennis home, and the local public school teaches students through 12th grade.

The local public library serves the whole of the Madison Valley, and a local airport welcomes private and charter flights. In July, during the height of Montana’s idyllic summer months, Ennis’s fairgrounds host the famed Ennis Rodeo on the 4th of July Weekend, and a parade passes down Main Street. In August, a Fly Fishing Festival attracts anglers from across the country, and the Madison Valley Arts Festival brings in creatives and visitors from around the state.
